The Town of Warren is also working on an east-west trail system to connect neighborhoods in Touisset and eastern Warren into central Warren across the Kickemuit River. National Grid is the primary distributor of electricity and gas in the state of Rhode Island, which operates as a virtual monopoly. In Warren, these power lines continue northward to Belcher’s Cove, with almost all the land beneath the power lines under the ownership of National Grid. The Town of Bristol’s Conservation Commission has begun mapping and blazing trails in the Perry Farm property which will be the central connection linking the Town’s east and west trail system. National Grid’s power line easement runs through this land and currently has a path beneath the lines once used by residents as a walking trail and now by National Grid for maintenance. The Town of Bristol recently acquired over 100 acres of land that is now protected open space known as “Perry Farm”. The Towns of Warren and Bristol have joined together in this effort to investigate a trail connection which would link neighborhoods, open space and schools between the two towns via a bicycle and pedestrian path on the electric easement of the National Grid.
